will the playstation 2 have a broadband connection (10-100 base T ethernet)?

im planning on getting on when they come out on the 26 and i have cable internet and was wondering if anybody had this info can't seem to find it on any gamesites...

I believe it will come with a 56K modem and for broadband you will have to buy an adaptor thingey that plugs into the bottom. I think it will cost about $20.

I don't see why you would need a 10/100 base T ethernet adapter just for cable (the average is 1.5 mbit-8mbit). For networking shure 10/100 is great! I hope it does come with a 10/100 but I don't think it will.

You don't necessarily need a 10/100 but if you're going to get a NIC it'd be stupid to get a 10mbit when you can get a 10/100 for hardly any more money.

Playstation 2 comes with no modem at all. Sony is waiting for broadband to be firmly in place before they roll out any online plans. That's right, they don't even have _plans_ yet. However dreamcast's ethernet card is due out in a matter of weeks.. Sega is the place to go for online console gaming.

Wanna know what I think is stupid?

WHy must all the gaming options be ONLINE for these consoles? Why are none of them thinking about LAN play? They could just put ethernet in the console, and sell a separate "PS2Hub 2000 Gold" or some other cheesy name thing for about $30.00 (it would be a rip, but what isn't?) --And then you could have PS2 LAN PARTIES! Now, who wouldn't do this if they had a PS2 and friends with PS2s?

they tryed that with the original PS and the link cable it doesn't work mostly because every body needs there own tv to play...
