Will the P series XPC's be taking over the G5 series for the consumer's high end systems? i'm curious because i am absolutely in love with the G5 designs.

I'm looking into doing an SFF build for the first time. It looks like the P series is only for Pentium 4's, so is that basically out of the question for an A64 machine?

no, hte P chassis is not just for P4's. Shuttle is coming out with an amd one very soon and likely another amd one of the same chassis that supports sli. if you want more info about the a64 P series, go here.

Sweet. I think I'll definitely be waiting for an nForce4 SFF solution then (I wasn't going to be building immediately anyway). One question that the article didn't seem to answer - how are they going to tackle the slot issue? There will obviously be a PCI-E x16 slot for a video card, but what other than that? Regular PCI? PCI-E x1? Ideally one of each?...

I really wish that these SFF systems had 3 slots instead of just two. I realize that would be really pushing it with how small these things are though. I'm not using any PCI slots right now - but I want to get an HDTV tuner in the somewhat near future - and then the PCI slot would be used up already. If I wanted to get another sound card or something (ideally, if Nvidia ever does a PCI-E Soundstorm card...), I'd basically be out of luck.

For the most part though, I doubt I'd really miss a full-size case...

Edit: I'm a n00b and I need to use the search function. :p I see that it's x16 and x1, or x16 and x16. Given that they seem to be including pretty nice onboard audio, I don't think I'll need to upgrade to a separate sound card. Then the problem becomes finding an HDTV tuner an PCI-E...of which I know none. :(

Oh, and as for the poll, I think I like the G5 series design more too. If they could produce an nForce4 version of it, I'd be all over that. Even more so if they found a way to allow for 2 PCI/PCI-E x1 cards, but I kind of doubt that one...

that nforce 4 ultra xpc i linked you earlier doenst include a pci slot. it will be pci-e 1x. the integrated audio it's using will be the envy24, which its quality rivals that of the audigy 2! as for the poll and such, tho i like the G5 model better, its 240W psu wont be enuff to power dual-core, which is what i'm looking forward to. the P serie's 350W can easily support it. knowing that the shuttle 240W can handle an fx-55, x800 xt pe, a sound card, 2 raptor hard drives, an optical drive, and etc, an additional 110W can easily support dual-core.

Yeah, I just saw the other thread on it here. Thanks for all the info though. :)

I love the G5 design too (very happy w/ my SN95G5), and since I don't need SLI, I would definitely pick up a NForce4 based G5 chassis Shuttle.

Depending on the tax return :) , I might pick up the SN25P just to give it a go (since they are including very good integrated audio... might not be Soundstorm, but close), but with 5 fans, I'm a little worried about how silent it would be.
