OK, so I sit down to relax for a bit and enjoy some pre-season football in HD. But, it's freaking blacked out?? A pre-season game blacked out? What a great way to build a fan base!!

Why does the NFL continue this ancient practice? They are the only sport that does the blackout thing correct? What's the point, is it some sort of business strategy or what?

Oh well, guess I'm stuck with the LL World Series..... sheesh how many home runs did those PA kids just hit in the first inning, 3, 4? Looking to be a blowout.....

You're missing an entertaining game. Demarcus Ware is an amazing athelete, and Bledsoe is suicidial apparently.

if the hometown team doesn't sell enough tickets before gametime, they blackout the game in that area. quit being a cheap ass and support your franchise by purchasing tickets to the game. seattle sucks, anyways. catch a pass for god's sake.

The NBA does it. The NCAA does it.

Nothing restricted just to the NFL.

Did you not see the most immobal QB in the universe not only take off and run (at which I gasped) but dive head first in a pre-season game? Don't get me wrong, I admire the courage he has, and its great to see him going for it especially in a pre-season game... but bledsoe is SLOW.

And just for the record, Im a huge Cowboy fan!

Guess I never noticed. I'm not much of a Sonics or Huskies fan. I think they're usually sold out anyway.

But come on, pre-season? Gimme a break....

IIRC, it's not really something that the NFL(or NBA, or NCAA) does per se. It's a practice put in place by the broadcast companies. They really are the bastards procreating this.

Not that the leagues are stepping and stopping it because they are getting big bucks from the exclusive contracts....

Ooh good point. I dunno, they are both abnormally slow. Would be a good race.

OK, then I hate them too :(

8-0 PA in the 2nd, great game. Think I'll go read a book....

seattle sucks, anyways. catch a pass for god's sake.

What, you didn't like their game plan in the playoffs last year? Keep throwing it to the clutzes who keep dropping it and don't even throw once to Jerry Rice? Made a lot of sense to me.

i vote bledsoe...

one time in buffalo, he got sacked (big suprise) and had to come out of the game. they replaced him with a cardboard cutout of himself who rushed for zero yards..... 300 more than bledsoe.

playoffs??? the NFC playoffs were a joke. i'll pick three teams that DIDN'T go to the playoffs in the AFC that would would smoke seattle and the dodgeball wide receivers they covet. buffalo, jacksonville, and baltimore... and the texans for extra credit.

news flash... jerry rice is OLD. give him a headset and a clipboard and maybe he'll make a difference.

never heard of this before. (heard of games being blacked out on espn, and shown on local tv), but blocking a monday night doesnt make sense. its on ABC.

it wasnt blacked out here during a panthers game on monday night last year.

Newflash, he's still good enough to make ANY NFL team. And start on quite a few. If he wants to keep playing, thats his decision, not yours. He's earned the right to retire whenever the fvck he wants.

It forces people in the local market to go to the game, instead of watching it for free on TV.

You can't even begin to imagine how many games the Bengals had blacked out from 1992-2004.

Not in Sacramento they don't. Hell, we just got an entire network dedicated to the Kings last season. Every single game was televised and I know we didn't sell out every game.

did i say he wasn't good enough to play? no. my point is that he's not the receiver you look to for a decisive play in a win or go home situation. you'll see that in denver this year. look for all of the defensive schemes NOT doubling up on him. 3 catches a game, tops. and if he was better than that, he would be starting on these teams you speak of.

I must be thinking of a different type of "blackout" then.

What I'm thinking is this - Say I am a subscriber to Direct TV. I pick up the sports package that gets me the local stations for different marktes - a local sports station in Denver. One in Chicago. One in New Jersey, ect.

The station will broadcast all of the pre-game stuff. The players warming up, ect with local commentators and broadcasters conducting player interviews and the like. As soon as tip off happens, the cable provider pulls the plug.

Blacked out unless you subscribe to a season pass to that league.

Bah!

i thought that blackouts were due to a lack of ticket sales. why go to a game and pay 40+ dollars when you can not take a shower and not put on pants and watch from your trailer.
