I got a couple of Xeon W3503 (dual core 2.4Ghz) that I pulled from some Dell Precision T3500's and was wondering if they would work with a motherboard meant for Core i7's. The other way around worked for me, I was able to run an i7 920 in one of the Dell T3500's. Anyone tried? Or can anyone think of a reason it won't work?

They should given the W3520 works in single socket boards. The BIOS needs to support it especially if you want to overclock.

Yeah, that's what I was a little worried about, the BIOS supporting the cpu. Intel doesn't even have this cpu (SLBGD) listed on their site.

I too am wondering about how well this particular cpu will run on a non-server motherboard, especially how well it will overclock. I also was wondering how well an e5530 will perform in the same type of motherboard. I have found two great deals for both of these cpus. There is hope in a review on newegg for the e5520. The reviewer says that it was working well with his ,designed for i7, Gigabyte X58-UD5. He claims to have overclocked the processor from 2.26ghz to 4.87ghz.

Have you seen someone else selling the W3503? If so, where?
