Will the motherboard support pins cause short circuit?

After I installed my old components into a new case and connecting all the cables, I saw from the mobo manual a warning that I should remove any excess mobo support pins (the ones that mobo installation pins are supposed to screw into) that do not align at all with the mobo screw hole, in order to eliminate any risk of short circuit.

Right now there's 1 such excess mobo support pin beneath my mobo, should I take it out? (which will definately take another hour just b/c I have to remove everything b4 I can get to the mobo); or is it more or less safe to just leave it there (the pin sits near the top right of the mobo, on the center line between the two memory slots but above both the memory slots, don't know if this info helps

I should probably remove the excess pin, but i wanted to know if anyone has left it in there consistently and have been trouble-free (guess it depends on where the support pin is as well)

All the pins should line up with ATX config, should be about 9 pins. They all mount to the area where there's insulation. If you have an extra pin/screw that's not attached to the insulated hole, then take it out. Otherwise it would touch one of the components on the bottom of the board and could cause shorts. FOr something electrically delicate like a motherboard, you should definitely take the extra pin out
 
Unless it is a PLASTIC non conductive pin, or unless you are CERTAIN it will not ever touch the motherboard even under a flex / stress situation, it MUST be removed.
