They keep spamming me with email like this:

Why would I go there to read irreverent content from people I don't know (when I can just go to ATOT :))

Ha! I got one just a few minutes ago actually.

Gmail's servers spamming their own mailboxes. I wonder if the lights dimmed slightly at GHQ...

It is predictable. Did you see their commercial? All-in on a failed idea. I've been thinking of google as a short target honestly. Why are they in panic mode? DON'T PANIC! Their core business model is fine and somehow they feel threatened by facebook. Protip about facebook is that I'm never searching/shopping for something when using their site.

There is no way they can compete after the fact with facebook. It just doesn't work like that when it comes to social media, it is very very fickle.

The issue is that it is google. They think that since it has the google name it will have that automatic selling point. It is a shame because it is not a bad product either

I agree but my friends don't use it. So....Facebook had the luxury of building up over time. Google+ would have had to get everyone to convert over all at once. It just isn't happening.

The only reason to really leave facebook is privacy and Google laxd on privacy in order to launch google+, so its a fail.

They are in complete panic over Facebook at Google right now. I know a few people who work there and the word from corporate is that Facebook is their #1 competitor.

Can't blame them. Tons of people just set Facebook as their start page and never use Google or its services. Trying to compete with Facebook by building a rival social network is fail though.

This is actually a great read about Google and the direction in which they have focused:
http://gizmodo.com/5895010/the-case-against-google

I like Google, and fwiw would love to see them succeed here, because it makes all their services that much better when individual properties are strong. But, it's going to be difficult to get this to work out in their favor.
It's a terrific observation that the internet is focusing on massive yet walled-off islands of data. Google needs data to be Google, and Google is having a difficult time getting the data it needs/wants that would enable it to provide the results you want.

if it came before FB, then maybe it would've worked but as it stands, it's not very intuitive off the bat. And you know people are going to compare ease-of-use.

It's actually a lot easier to share specific things with specific groups in google+ than it is in Facebook.

They both do different jobs. Facebook is good for neffing and funny cat pictures whereas Google seems better for picture/video sharing.

You should quit your iPhone instead :D

Sure thing, just buy me a android device with similar specs for the iphone 4 that works on the ATT network and I'll switch.

Otherwise, I keep this thing until it is no longer supported by ATT/apple.

Google+ is a good time, not sure why it gets a bad rap. I'd rather see photos of outer space than 30,000 photos of my buddies' obnoxious kid or a chick in a skirt (well, maybe not)
