IBM 40GB 7200RPM Deskstar 60GXP Ultra ATA/100
Thats the drive i'm gonna pick up, does it have jumpers on it that'll let me set it back to ata/33, or will it automagically revert back form 100 to 33 on its own? Also, does my mobo play any part in that autodetection? I've got a soyo 6BA+III

thx for any help/info :)

As for Jumpers, youll have to look at the manual it comes with. But yes, it should work only at ATA/33 obviously.

It should work with your ATA/33.
It does not have any jumper to set connection protocol, but you can
download a utilities from IBM to set your protocol to ATA/33.

If you try it and runs than it should work okay. The check in your OS
if it's DMA enable or not. If not then try use IBM utilities to set it
to ATA/33 and enable the DMA in the OS.

the HD will autodetect transfer speed. the jumpers are there to define slave\master\cable select. if its set on cable select, the mobo will the determine its setting [slave\master]
