Will the gas prices affect your next car purchase?

Currently biking it everywhere. Have 20ish to spend. Rising prices are a little disturbing when looking at how much money will be spent, but then again, that's life. Be frugal or ya live only once :)

Yea.

I would like to get a flex fuel car but I can't get E85 around here so that does me no good. I might go with a diesel and convert it to use a biodiesel mix

I don't plan on buying another car for about 5 years. My Mazda3 should do me over just fine, unless they outlaw the use of fossil fuels or something.

Buy the time I buy my next car, it will probably be a hover car with a Mr. Fusion 4000 on it for fuel.

$4/gallon vs $2.50 gallon

$4/gallon x 15 gallons a week x 56 = $3,360
$3/gallon x 15 gallons a week x 56 = $2,100

Difference?
$1,260

That's comparable to $32,000 put in an ING account (4%) for 1/year.

oops there are 52 weeks in a year.. blah someone else figure it out im too lazy to fix it..

Yes, if gas price keeps going up and staying up, I will get a Civic. No hybrid yet, the technology is still too new. I will get a hybrid when its MPG is 100 or more

Whether you admit it or not, you also want to be seen in one. It's that primitive part of your brain speaking that is saying "bigger better, me buy big".

For another 7Gs you can install more batteries and have the civic run like a electric car(you plug it in to your house to charge) or for long trips you engage the engine to produce electrical power. The prototype gets about 250MPG

Yeah this is what I've been thinking of also...maybe even a Fit.

...Except electricity isn't free energy, unless you steal it from the neighbors.

Then get a Volvo and actually HAVE safety instead of the illusion of it.

Nope. I bought my 2005 Ford Expedition 4X4 last summer during the gas spike craziness, will most likely buy a new Ford F-150 4X4 this year. Yes, gas prices are higher than I like, but I'm NOT gonna sacrifice my comfort nor safety by driving some tiny little crackerbox car....I'm 6'1", and since I got hurt, and can't get a whole lot of exercise, I've blown up like Jabba the Hut. to about 270. (I ran about 220 before I goit hurt). Me getting into one of those tiny sardine cans is hard enough when I was physically able, nowdays? no way...

Supposedly the next gen Prius will get around 82 mpg. As for my own car purchase I had planned to get a fuel efficient car even when gas prices were very low. So technically the prices haven't affected my decision.

It was a big factor in my purchase last year. My Civix EX SE gets about 32 mpg. Not bad, but I work at home as well.

sure.

purchased a 98 integra gs-r sedan 1 year ago. been keeping weekly mileage records.

after 1 year: consistenly ~30mpg with 50/50 driving. i was limited to an $8k budget, and i thought i struck a nice balance between efficiency, fun, and reliability.

my next vehicle will probably just be a car to get around town in, so I'll probably think about gas mileage. I'll still have my other vehicles though.

My Corolla does ok on gas & should last at least 3-4 years before I think about replacing it, but when I do I'll most likely be either a hybrid or 100% alternative-fuel powered somthing.
