Will the games that run on pentium also run on AMD?

Hello,
I'm planning to replace my pentium III with an AMD. I was curious whether the games that run on pentium processor can and will run on AMD?

AMD makes Intel-compatible CPU's, which means their processors can perform the exact same basic operations that an Intel processor can. There are some operations that are specific either to AMD or Intel processors (3DNow! versus SSE/SSE2, although AMD now has SSE and SSE2 as well in the Opteron), but most programs only use these to churn out extra performance from your computer, in other words, they are not required to run a program.

I'm surprised a question like that was even asked on these forums seeing as how people who frequent here are generally fairly computer literate.

In the words of George Carlin, "Think of how stupid the avrage person is, then think half the people are dumber than that."

Well, some people come here to ask questions because there are so many computer literate people. It's a good place to learn.

Yep, this is a good place to learn.

Yah I can not tell you how much I have learned hear, I was just said that quote (which as a matter of facts seems to be in several ppl's sig's here) to prove the point that you can never expect a minimal level of knowledge anywhere.

Of course it will. I haven't heard of a game that's processor-dependent.

Every game is processor dependent unless it's Open Source or was designed to run on other processors, the difference here being that AMD and Intel use the same specs for their processors. Basically AMD licenses the right to make Intel x86 compatible CPUs from Intel.

If games (or any type of program) weren't processor dependent I would have no problem running Q3 on my Alpha workstation.
