Will the final version of Windows XP require activation like the beta does?

I believe the only version that won't require it will be the Corporate(Enterprise) edition after final release is done.

My thought.

Although one might think it is the actual CD or version that a copy of Whistler a 'Must activate' or a 'No activation' product. I personally think that will NOT be the case. It *could* be the CDKEY that decide what version must be activated and which one doesnt. Cooperate users might get a different 'set' of keys while other use get another 'set'. After the key is entered, then Whistler might decide if it must be registered or not.

The reason why I think this is the fact that I personally have a Pirvated copy of Office 2000 Premium. It 'came' with a CDKEY that required me to register. Obviously, I couldnt. Somehow, I asked a friend and he actually give me a key that does NOT require me to register. I found it unbelieveable at first. But the registration process is 're-producable'.

Anyone got any information on this?

However, if M$ really wanted to stop copying. They wont use the above method due to the fact that if the cooperate key is 'leaked' then... 🙂

Arrggg the stupidity....all this activation is going to accomlish is hassling legitimate users.

Piraters are going to find ways around it anyways.

I installed Whistler pro build 2428 this morning...

[*]After disabling remote access and system restore, and setting my theme to classic, it still uses 15MB more RAM than Win2k.
[*]I'd much rather WMP6 than WMP7 and probably 8...
[*]The built in CDRW software is a waste of resources in my view (I don't burn enough CDs...)
[*]I find the layout of control panel and what not rather annoying..probably more intuitive to a new user, but I find it annoying, just adds more clicks to get to things I want

I'm sure there are a couple more things...but I'm just glad to be back in Win98 hahahaah I never though I'd say that...

But despite all that...I'd probably still buy WinXP pro over 2k...but if I have to contact microsoft to activiate it....no thank you sir....

I'll stay with Win2k thank you very much.

I've been playing with XP a bit...it's alright...I'd probalby take it over Win2k except that stupid call MS to activate thing...
piss on that...
