Not only will it continue, it would evolve into two different branches:

1) Hellgate: London

2) Diablo III (that will be made by Blizzard)

However knowing Blizzard MO, Diablo III won't come in anytime soon.

HG:L has moved a far way beyond the basic hack-and-slash gameplay that D2:LOD portrayed.

I just don't think it is fair to say that this is "Diablo 3".

had it been diablo 3, they would have NAMED it diablo 3. The diablo series have an amazing community that they could realy profit from. But they are working on Starcraft 2 now, who knows when they make time for Diablo 3.

Good point. That's exactly how I figure it as well.

I think they will start working on Diablo 3 as soon as they get StarCraft 2 out of the way.

Spiritual is the keyword here. Anyone calling HGL Diablo 3 is sorely mistaken unless they can consider a FPS/RPG hybrid and a Hack N' Slash dungeon crawler the same game. Blizzard has said, for years, that they plan to continue all their franchises for years to come, but they just need time to do it. WoW, SC2, Diablo is next up to bat, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Couple of years, minimum.

Even so...Diablo 3 would be a monster-selling game. I would buy 2...:p

What do you think the storyline will be like?

Does Tyrael get corrupted by the Worldstone?
Do the Prime Evils come back (somehow) and they are a lot stronger?

What new characters will be added?
What will the old characters be like now?

What do you all think?

You guys really need to understand something. Blizzard consists of multiple development teams. Unfortunately the Blizzard North team who made Diablo1 and Diablo2 had its leadership quit the company and its offices closed and the remaining workers moved into Blizzard HQ.

The thing is, we have no idea what that team has been working on since Diablo2. We know the RTS team started development on Starcraft2 as soon as Warcraft3's expansion was finished, but they bear no reflection on what other teams are doing.

The only announcement I expect this year is the second World of Warcraft expansion, perhaps announced in August at Blizzcon.

It's ABSOLUTELY, DEFINITELY, CERTAINLY going to happen then, unless I'm wrong.

Diablo 2 was a great game. I came back so many times... Every hardcore gamer has starcraft, diablo, and cs in his arsenal. Anyway, the last time I played Diablo 2 was last summer. Made a Sorc, put on some poorman's MF gear and let the bot loose. By the end of the summer I had a ton of nice items. Then freshman year of college started and I was in the middle of making my singer barb when the person I was xfering with dropped from the game and I lost a ton of nice items (rare legit charms and rings for barb, sword, armor, etc). I took it as a sign and quit asap! Don't think I'll ever go back because blizzard just makes it harder and harder to bot or mf in general. I'll definitely play Diablo 3 whenever it comes out. It's fun to play when everyone else is starting out and you have no idea how the story pans out.

Those of you in a rut could check out Titan Quest while you wait.

Along those lines, it seems that the simple little action-based dungeon crawls are still very popular. I dont think Blizzard is dumb enough to allow the franchise to die.
We may just have to wait a bit.

I agree. There was a long wait between Diablo I and Diablo II so....:p

I'll wait but I'm getting anxious because I'm back on D2:LOD again (single player for now). I even got my girlfriend playing it for the last year....:D

Titan Quest is what comes closest but doesn't really come that close...:(

I loved diablo!

But until diablo 3 comes out, I have to think, probably due to the more advanced graphics and the story life, that Titan Quest was actually a better game.

I just hope that it has both single and multiplayer modes. Sometimes it is good to get away from the online play.
