Will the Catholic Church survive the scandals?

what a load of crap. if you hate the catholic church, you don't really need an excuse like this scandal to lash out at it, do you?

What I think he meant is, that even though many Priests did not 'support' or 'condone' what was happening, they certainly did little or nothing to stop it. It was being tolerated on a massive scale, and even a few Priests have stated that this could not have happened without a lot of Priests, Bishops, Archbishops, parishoners, and the Pope himself, looking the other way. There is enough responsibility and blame for what happened to go around the entire Catholic Church a dozen times.

I have to agree with this, actually... while I don't think the entire Church was in on it, I do think there were a lot of people indirectly condoning the actions taking place.

We also need to consider and admit that the church has been a magnet for psychosis suffers that became part of the church hierarchy as well as the parishioners. Add to that the pedophiles and sexual molesters that are also part of the mix, who in good conscience could trust these people with children or money?? The only other place that contains this kind of deviance is Pellican Bay Penitentiary. At least in P.Bay they don't wear collars..

The Catholics will survive forever. Although the church is the stupidest thing, as it just gives the people who say they believe a cop-out to be "forgiven," as you can worship just as good if not better at home.

Think about this...Wakeland (think that's his name) was already proven to have given the money, but these freaks still go to his mass? Don't they have any freaking morals? Maybe they don't lose faith in God and Jesus, but in the Catholic church. It's like saying someone lost faith in justice, just cause they do not believe in Osama's idea of it.

Ahhh spoken by "Christians" who believe Catholics are of 'false prophets' when they have the likes of Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Billy Graham (who is anti-semitic as evidenced by his recorded comments during Nixon's time) and a bunch of Cadillac-driven ministers who are adorned by jewelry, expensive clothes and who doesn't give anything to charity. The Cathloic Church is the world's biggest charity, they are in the worst slums in India, Africa and other third-world countries. Please don't generalize that all priests are bad. Sure, there are deviants but there are a lot more good priests. You also have to question the motive of a lot of people 'claiming' to have been abused. Sure there genuine cases but there's a lot of them out there that are just bogus claims and just trying to get 'a little money'. It is only here in America that frivolous lawsuits happen and unnecessary monetary awards are made. If a person got abused, sure he was wronged but what is going to make him better? Money? Just give him $3 million, its going to make him better, right? Justice should be brought to the wronged but at the same time, the wronged has been overcome with greed.

As for abusive priests not being turned over to police, you have to understand Catholic mentality. Forgiveness and giving a person a second or third chance to correct himself is a big part of the Catholic psyche. I'm not saying it justifies what some priests did. But the true Christians in this world should find it in them to pray for the healing of the abused and to have God heal and forgive the abusers. Jesus made St. Paul his follower even though he killed Christians for a living. Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. He didn't ask for a lynch mob to kill them. The Pharisees, who are all high and mighty and judgemental, who pray with their heads held high, are the ones who incited a mob to convince Pilate to kill Jesus. Those are the false prophets. And they come from all religions and all denominations.

It is far worse than a "few dozen renegade priests." There is a massive cover-up by the hierarchy. And in a year, many of the dioceses will be bankrupt.

The government of the Republic of Ireland paid out over 400 million dollars (including 110 million kicked in by the Catholic church) to settle abuse cases.

in my area the church is strong & growing, even though a local priest has been arrested for child molestation.
