Will the bank accept a check in two halves?

I accidentally ripped one of my paychecks in half. Will the bank still deposit it?

Cool, I'll bring tape. The issuing bank is my bank, so it should be fine. If not, I'll just have to tell payroll to reissue a check for me.

Seems odd to me. What if the person whose check it was ripped it up so it couldnt be used?

That's why you should write VOID on the check before tearing it up.

Bingo... unless it says VOID then chances are they'll accept it if it's in one piece through tape.

They will take checks ripped into multiple pieces, taped together, and then written on. Saw a former co-worker do this.

This is true - I got a check in the mail ripped into about 5 pieces in one of the "oops we destroyed your letter" envelopes from the post office. I took the whole mess to the bank and they taped it together for me and deposited it.

Really, only the information on it is required not the cheque or format itself.

Normally I'd make fun of you for tearing your paycheck in half, except last month I was opening my pay statement and, lo and behold, with Herculean-like strength, I rent it in twain. Thank God for direct deposit, eh?

Same thing with a stop payment..it's up to the issuer to retain it/get it back so it's not cashed.
