Hey guys,

Will an Abit AX8 K8T890, AV8 K8T800 or the Asus AV8-Deluxe support Seagate or Hitachi 1.5 gb/s transfer rates? Not sure what this is called just looks like an improved Serial ATA. Maybe it was a type but I don't think so. Correct me if i'm wrong. You have Serial ATA 150 mb/sec and then you have SATA 1.5 gb/s???

-Are the 1.5gb/s SATA drives backward compatible to the 150mb/sec?

-How much performance will I lose if I don't get the 1.5gbs? Is this even available on any mobos yet?

Please don't turn this in a maxtor vs wd vs whatever debate. The debates I have seen on here are laughable at best when it comes to that topic. I am convinced the Seagate and the Hitachi are the best options for me and warranty is great. I also looked at the Maxtor 300 gig 16mb but the price is higher and the 16mb makes virtually no performance difference.

Thanks,
Seth

yes those motherboards will support those drives ... the 1.5 gb/s = 150 mb/s when the math is done. I forget what the 1.5gb/s repesents at the moment.

192MB/s. You lose. No SATA drive in existance comes even close to this transfer rate.

Ok thanks guys.

Must be "gigabits" and not gigabytes. Should have figured that much.

This is just another thing like the AGP or PCI-E really the added bandwidth is moot due to the fact that you can't even fill the pipe up!
