what with construction that might not be done with and a high threat of terrorism, there is a pretty decent chance that athens will not be prepared to hold the games. if so, there are a few emergency places the IOC could hold the games that offer the facilities needed and better security. atlanta and sydney are obvious backups, since the recent olympics there they have the facilities. houston is in there because there are a ton of stadiums/arenas and there is a velodrome (something most cities do not have and essential for bike races), and new york just because.

I don't know about them happening or not. I'm undecided on that. But I think I remember hearing that the IOC had Sydney begin preparations as a contingency.

if it's not going to be in athens, i think it should be in a neutral territory like antarctica

I think it will be held in Athens. If it's not, though, all I can say is they royally f'd up in a lot of ways and their entire country should feel embarrassment and shame.

I can't say I care, but it's obviously a big deal, so here's my measly input.

nm, I didn't know they had contingencies
