Question Will the $175 I5 11400f give the $200 Ryzen 5 3600 a run for the money?

I've noticed that both of these processors seem to give similar performance, but the Intel processor is about $20 to $25 cheaper. Do you think folks will pay a premium for the AMD name?

AMD has the "gaming halo" right now, so people are willing to pay more for AMD. So, yes.

Should you? Depends. AMD has been offering a more forward-looking socket for some time now. There may be a Zen3+ offering sometime soon as well.

If you're on a strict budget, though, Intel isn't the worst choice in the world.

Don't forget to add in motherboard price to that. While its not as much the case now, historically Intel motherboards have been more expensive than AMD boards.

They have the "gaming halo" right now with the 5xxx series. With the 3600, which was the comparison from the OP, not really.

The 11400F is a good value CPU right now but long term buying into the AM4 platform would likely be better.

Yes, but it is not that simple. If anyone intends to use Intel stock CPU cooler, well earplugs are highly desirable.New beeter/quieter CPU cooler, this is minimal additionally 25$ on the scale.

The 11400F is the best value CPU on the market right now when paired with a H570 chipset based board.

Yeah, almost bought an 11400 to play with, but, where are the cheap boards? None on Newegg right now, but AM4 has budget options.

AMD seems to be winning on sub $100 board supply right now, lol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This video turned me off on 11400; 10400 is a better option.

Just asking general question. I was hoping to upgrade my Ryzen about a year ago when the 3600 was about $180, but decided to wait until it fell to $160. Now it is even higher. I'm starting to see comparable Intel processors for less, so now when I'm thinking about building a new system, I'm kind of on the fence.....

Well, I can tell you, that, most likely, as the "silicon Shortage" continues, prices are only going to mostly go UP, over the next year. I've already watched the Pentium G6400 go from $59 to $99, along with a decline in availability. I've watched the 10100 go from $114 to $165.

Edit: Basically, if you want an 11th-Gen RocketLake CPU, I suggest getting it more-or-less NOW, while they have the intro sales.

Maybe not the top-end chip, as that was introduced at a higher price than the top-end 10th-gen, and there might be a "price correction" there.

Its not just about this, this damn new crypto that is mined using hard disks uses a hell of a lot of CPU cores and ram in order to generate the plots. This is the last thing we needed now.

Rocketlake i5s, Cometlake i3s are price hiking in my country, 25-30% across different shop.

And something from AMD like 3200g/3400g go crazy as well, but Rx-3x00 price is strangely stable, it seems AMD is not that hugely affected by supply yet...... more IMPACT to come.....

Just throwing this out there:

Complete desktop for $430,
i5-10400, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Win 10 home

Can't really get much cheaper than that.
Maybe manually add another 1x8GB RAM.
