Will Surface 3 Type Cover (non pro) work with Surface RT?

So I have an original Surface RT and besides being stuck on Windows 8.1 RT for the rest of eternity, it still is a terrific machine for me to use for reading, browsing, and other simple stuff you need to do with a tablet. Plus, it's a fantastic RDP tool for me to access my desktop and assortment of other machines around the house (and from anywhere with my VPN).

I've had the original touch cover for it since day 1 and it has seen better days. I'm wondering if the Surface 3 Type Cover works with this. I know the Type Cover 2 works fine but the 3 drastically improved the touchpad. There's the 3 Pro type cover, which is bigger to accommodate the Surface Pro 3. But the Surface 3 Type Cover, designed for the Surface 3, seems to be about the same size.

My question is-- will this work with the Surface RT? I would like the better touchpad, but I suppose I can live with the Type Cover 2 if I have to.

I just don't want to order the 3 and end up not having it work or fit right.

Thanks in advance y'all.

All Surface keyboards are interchangeable except the Surface Book dock. The Surface 3 is taller and narrower so the keyboard will stick out the top and not cover the sides.

I see. Do you have any experience using it? I'm wondering how well the extra folding area that magnetically sticks to the surface works with a non Surface 3. And I'm curious if the Surface 3 trackpad is so much better to warrant the mismatch size with my RT. Maybe I should just get the Type Cover 2 and deal with it.

I used the TypeCover2 briefly on my S3. I haven't use my S3's TypeCover on the 2RT yet though.

Edit: The magnetic strip that lifts the keyboard a little doesn't work with the 2RT. The S3 type cover extends about a 1/3rd of an inch above the top, but the width is about the same. Looking closer at it, it would fit just about perfect if not for the extra magnetic strip.
