Assault weapons "are the weapons of gangs, drug lords and sick people," Mauser said before his three-block march to the convention, which runs through Sunday. "It is a weapon of war and we don't want this war on our streets."

He seriously needs to do his research. "...Weapons of gangs, drug lords, and sick people?" This has been proven wrong over and over again, "assault weapons" are infrequently used in crimes. Why use a $1000 gun to hold up the corner store when a $100 POS handgun will suffice?

I'm truly sorry his son was killed, but this just makes him look like an idiot.

Right up there with Sarah Brady.

Although I also want an AR-15, I do find it hard to justify why civilians should have access to them. Why not working grenades, LAWs and a M1 Bradley while we're at it? :p

Edit: IMO pistols, shotguns and sport rifles are fine.

You do understand his son was killed, right? I am sorry Viper, I usually agree with your thoughts but lets put you in his shoes and see what you think. Just my $0.02 :)

I would start off by blaming his murderer.

Maybe that's just me.

He's entitled to his emotion & opinion, but neither exempts him from basic facts or public scrutiny. The facts do not support the agenda he's pushing.

I completely understand WHY he feels the way he does, and I completely support his right to speak out about it. I don't have to agree with him.

I don't really give a fvck how his son was killed. It's sad that he died, but it's not the fault of any inanimate object. My grandfather was killed when a semi truck crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a head on collision with his car. Do you see me trying to ban cars or semi trucks?

<-- Doesn't own a gun, doesn't have any real desire to own a gun, but believes others should be allowed to.

Good luck getting that M1 Bradley :p

Besides which, for those of us in America, the 2nd Amendment is all the justification we need. I realize it doesnt apply in America, Jr., but for most on this board it does apply.

No no no... if those EVIL BLACK GUNS didnt talk to him, he never would have tried to shoot up his school, and instead could have concentrated on blowing it up without warning. Get it straight.

Good point. I'd like to see as few things banned as possible, but where do you draw the line and why?
Although, thinking about it, why *shouldn't* someone be allowed to own a Bradley. Not allowed to drive it on the roads, but just own one?

Ha, from the title of this post, I thought that the OP meant that
emotion=wisdom.
We have a guy at work who lives by that equation....

Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry issued a statement before Cheney's address, saying "...which helps keep military-style assault weapons out of the hands of criminals and terrorists.
wtf? osaama bin laden didn't get those AK47s from carter's country, and still wouldn't even if the ban does expire. dumbass

I'd prefer an M1 Abrams, though.

Personally, I dont like guns. At all. Yes, I have fun whenever I get the chance to go target shooting.

Main reason I dont like them is it takes power from those who earned it, and delivers it to those who didn't...its the antethesis of darwinism. And that I hate. One of only many greivances I have with society today. But I digress.

And whether the second amendment says every American is entitled to own a firearm is certainly debateable.

I presume by "earned it" you mean by working out, staying in shape, etc. I dont know about your sister/female relatives, but my sister is in decent shape, and there is no way in hell she could match force with a guy in average, or even below average, shape. Ditto with the grandparents. But anyone who comes into my grandparents house late at night had better come either invited or announced, because my grandfather still has his "lost in combat" Colt from Korea, and though he doesnt shoot often anymore, he is still roughly as good as I am.

Given equal training, the average man can throw around the average woman without a problem. The difference in upper body strength is a lot to overcome. If a guy wants to rape a woman, and he does a marginal amount of planning, and the woman hasnt been studying self-defense for quite a while, he can do it. Chances are if he has a couple hundred grains worth of lead in him, he cant.

And if "the people" in the 2nd Amendment refers to the states, why doesnt "the people" in the first amendment apply only to the states, as well?

Whose sig is it that compares blaming guns for crime to blaming spoons for Rosie O'Donnell's being fat?

I dont know about your sister/female relatives,

Actually, my sister is 5'9", about 170 and can bench her bodyweight for a double. What can I say...good genetics run in my family :D . She's also been studying Isshinryu Karate for the last 8 years.

Im not too worried.

And I wont even begin comparing the number of female gun-carriers with their male counterparts.

Yes, but I'm talking averages, since the law isnt selectively applied to people above or below a certain fitness level. You havent addressed old people and how they are supposed to defend themselves, nor the selective definition of "the people" in the Bill of Rights.

As the saying goes: God made men. Samuel Colt made them equal :p

There is no such thing as an "assault" rifle. Why the mdeia has coined that as the operating term for rifles is beyond me.

Anyways, I have no use for the AR series. Better guns are available IMO.

It's the black furniture and bayonet lugs... turning normal hunting rifles into rifles capable of dealing out death in mass quantities.
