The reason celebs make these is because they(and the lawyers that represent them) know the masses are impressionable and easily swayed as long as the message is said in the "right way".

Except Mr. Smith hasn't had a movie released since the incident. He can't be too happy about that. Maybe he makes one last epic movie and gets invited to the Oscars after his ten year ban is over and wins another one, only to die the next day "celebrating" all alone in his fancy hotel room bathtub? All his riches go to his kids and other relatives but Jada gets only a wig. Now that would be something. A fitting end to a life lived well.
