Will shifting into reverse in my AT hurt the transmission?

I have a 2010 Corolla, AT. I like to throw the car in to "R" when braking because it dramatically decreases my stopping times... yes, I love to race. I understand that the gearbox is constantly switching between gears on an AT, but will my Reverse braking cause any ill effects in the future?

I believe my stickers and overinflated tires are in order.

Toyonda Civrolla?

Just pop the hood and open the doors like in the picture when you need to brake. More wind resistance!

Looks like a Gen 3 Camry (92-96). As riced out and horrible as it is, looks like it could tear some shit up.

Edit: nope, not a Camry, just noticed the corner lens slope, 8th gen Corolla (95-2000). Narrow valve cover + single cam sprocket + 16 valve = 4A-FE 1.6L. Not the best platform to build up crazy, FE head = torque and fuel economy.

Ok I'm done being serious, this thread delivers.

You effin idiot, you'll waste a lot of gas that way if you keep throwing your gears in reverse to stop.

Yeah, that is one big ass turbo. Not a fan of the car, but damn...

Meh, I looked into it further studying the engine carefully and found the engine is a 4A-FE. That huge, or any, turbo on that or any FE head is a complete ricetastic waste. I'd be surprised if it even made 300 HP after all that work and money.

The performance oriented Toyota engines have GE or GTE heads (and engine codes). 4A-GE, 3S-GTE, 2JZ-GTE, etc. 4A-FE or 5S-FE with turbos = fail.

The 5S-FE does alright with a turbo..might not last quite as long as a 3S-GTE, though. :p

I've been lucky enough to hear the sound of the Dodge Aries AT going into reverse from 25mph, sounds like a belt sander but....it will send shivers down your spine.

So, best case, the transmission engages and you just spin the wheels. I would guess you get much worse stopping power than just braking.

I was in my dad's XJS when he accidentally shifted in reverse going about 30 MPH. The V12 and transmission took it like a champ. Made quite a skid mark down the road.

you read your transmission wrong. in japanese race cars, "R" is a super-secret turbo race gear. you shift there when you want to go really really fast, tokyo-drift style.

how is that possible? AT transmissions have a lockout that prevents it from being shifted into reverse.

Okay, sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but this thread is shens.

He just stole a pic of MY car, that's how I know! By the way, it does 5-second quarters even before I hit the NOS, yo. Also before VTEC kicks in. After that, it's YATTA!!!!
