Will Scythe Ninja SCNJ-1000P be able to cool Conroe CPU?

Will it fit? I really need it for my current CPU, but I don't want to waste it when I upgrade my computer.

That has yet to be seen. I'm assuming Conroe's going to be LGA775? If it is, then it should fit.

I think the issue is whether it can fit the motherboard, not whether it can adequately cool it.
AFAIK it works on LGA775 which is what the Conroe will use.

As much as I ever don't want to admit to it, Howie is like about 1000% right on this one.

With a thinner waifer, the Conroe and future AMD's are not going to eat as much power, so if you can cool it now, you'll cool these new chips easily.

The question in my mind is not whether or not the newer chips will clock higher than stock, but how much they'd benfit from water or compressed gas cooling. In general, thinner waifers mean more sensitive to each tick up in temperature.

Thanks! I was concerned if it would fit, I'm sure it will be able to cool it.

it should fit and will DEF be able to cool it well, ninja has cooled my p4 prescott 3.2@3.55 idling at 40C load at 50-55C depending on outside temps

Yes, most LGA775 Coolers should fit Conroe and just about any half-decent cooler (for current prescotts) will be able to cool it quite well.

The real thermal question is will it be able to cool it passively...and allow overclocking.

and how do you guys know it will fit the new 965 motherboard which is suposed to support conroe? Ive been doing some intensive research and only a few 975 boards even boast it will support conroe. The conroe structure requires the motherboard to have more voltage regulators which 80% of the intel 9 series boards DONT HAVE. So how are you guys sure that when the i965 motherboards come out, its not going to have say, a DIFFERENT HSF MOUNT? the world may never know...

Lets save our assumptions and recomendations until intel comes out with the chip which is hopefully in a span of less then 2 months. It was said to come out end of may, but most likely DELL Will hord up most of the chips and consumers can have them as earily as june to july.

So as of this moment i can only think of 2 motherboards that will even take conroe, the cheap asrock board and the more highly expensive badaxe series i975 boards. Other then those two, i doubt you can say 100% surely that it will sport a same retainer system.

Have you ever heard of a socket using two different mounting systems?

ummm maybe back in the old P3 days. The Slot A's were different from P2 generation to earily P3 before they decided to to FPGA. If i remember that correctly.

Im not saying it will change, im saying theres a possibility it will change due to the need of more voltage regulators and a possibly different layout of the board. And to my knowledge only 2 boards boast it will support the conroe, yet intel has no word on exactly what board they are.

So to a degree, most likely it will take the same mount holes, but on the same same note, can you say it is a absolute?

Pretty much. Conroe fits into LGA775. If the mounting system for the LGA775 socket is universal (and I cannot see that it won't be), then it will work.

Can it cool the A64 3000+ (120nm, Newcastle) in fanless mode? I just want to keep the load temps under 50*C/122*F.

No overclock, Cool'n'Quiet enabled, room temp ~75-80 F*, motherboard temp ~95 F*(approx. by AsusProbe)

probably not
