Will science ever wipe out organized religion?

Obviously the concept of a god can never be wiped out, but what about the more corporeal parts of some religions?

IE: Let's say we finally figure out EXACTLY how the brain works... and there is no sign of a "soul". Then what?

I also read in another thread that a few religious types seem to think that teleportation is impossible because you'd be transporting your body ahead of your soul or something?

ANYways...

Well considering that a good percentage of americans still think the sun revolves around us and that the earth is flat, yeah I don't think science can do ****** when the people don't learn the discoveries in the first place..

I don't think science can ever disporive it. Faith itself can not be disproved. Its very basis is believing something without proof. That which must be believed without proof simply cannot be disproved, ever.
Look at the backlash over this discovery of Jesus' supposed burial thing. Some people are against it simply because they KNOW that Jesus was resurrected and went back to Heaven. They KNOW it, and they do so by faith, belief in something without proof. Nothing can ever disprove that.

Yes, Look at the progression since say 1000AD. Eventually Science will become the new religion, we will have faith in ourselves.

No, I don't think science disproves the existence of God, nor do I ever think it will. It's only fairly recently that faulty science has been used as a religion to declare that "God doesn't exist", or at least on this scale that we are now seeing. In fact, many of the early scientists (and some do today, as well) held the position that science glorifies God, because it shows the intricacies and infinite depth in design of the universe, one that only a fool would say "randomness" created. Science is also limited to the physical world, and it also cannot determine things or events before the universe itself was formed.

And if you take a look at the other thread, no, I don't believe that teleportation is impossible. I don't think, technologically speaking, that we as humans in our lifetime will be able to teleport ourselves.
 
NO, religions exist outside the boundaries of reason and common sense; it offers something science cannot 'invisible support.'
 
You certainly can still believe in a higher power while being scientifically minded, but current religious doctrines tend to have some wild claims that would be tough to swallow. Religions may evolve to become more inline with science.
 
Nothing science can do because facts are irrelevant to believers. Education might eventually manage it, however. If children knew the details of thousands of religions at a young age, they might realize how stupid it is to think any particular one of them is actually correct, for example.
 
Umm...There is science and there is Faith.

They co-exist happily together since the dawn of time.

PS: Note I said faith, not "organized religion".

Organized religion is based on faith. I have a strong faith in what I believe, but I disagree with certain things about the religion I am part of. Does that make me less religious? Not really. My faith keeps me strong in what I believe in.
 
As long as idiots drive around in minivans, with 8 kids on board, no, science will never be wiped out. 😉
