drive has crashed, but i think it is software corruption, not hardware failure because drive spins with no unusual noises. was FAT32 under windows2000. one partition on 10gig fuji drive. cannot reinstall windows without formatting drive. cannot repair windows due to "unrecoverable errors." my question is this: WHAT IS THE BEST DATA RECOVERY SOFTWARE OUT THERE? THIS DRIVE HAS CORRUPTION TO THE POINT THAT IT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE PARTITION OR THE OS THAT WAS ON IT, THEREFORE, WHATEVER UTILITY YOU SUGGEST MUST WORK WITHOUT THE PARTITION INFORMATION AVAILABLE ON THE DRIVE. we are considering sending the drive out to a data recovery service, but that is beaucoup bucks and we'd like avoid that expense. but i read that many of these data recovery utilities are worthless and can render the data unrecoverable even by the data recovery services. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? THANX!
