will revolution be nintendo's last stationary console?

seems like- no, all press is going to xbox & ps3. is nintendo dead in the water? i honestly have no idea, i haven't been following any of them that closely, but it seems like mainstream press is all about the other two.

Well a lot of people talk about how they "lost" the last generation of console wars. But the GC was remarkably profitable for them and is also the only console I'd consider buying. Now that I know the Revolution will be backwards compatible, I think I'll just wait for that.

So, no, it will not be their last console. As long as they continue to pump out their awesome first party titles, they will always have dedicated fanboys such as myself.

nope, they sell a ton of games and game systems, they have lower overhead that sony or microsft, so they where still very profitable. sony/microsoft get more attention because they spend more money to get that attention. nintendo definatly needs to restructure their advertising campains though imo.

look at the GC, what must have games are there? Without using the word Metroid, I can't think of many. The GC paled against the XBox and the PS2 IMO, I forsee a similar situation for the next gen

This post seems like flamebait, honestly. I liked quite a few titles in the GC's lineup and don't find much attractive about the XBox or PS2. Obviously others don't agree, so I would hardly say that the HaloBox and GT4Station (the only exclusive games that really interest me for either console) pale in comparison to the GC. Especially not when you hold them up to the brightly burning star that is the PC.

the cube has a cult following of youngsters ages 8-14 seriously, you'd be amazed at how many game cube games are bought at wal-mart for pre-teens in comparison to xbox/playstation games. I was once told at the local wal-mart here that 2/3 of all console games (not counting the gameboy games) they sold last year were game cube games. I live in an area that is mostly retirement folks, and I'm sure that has something to do with it, would your grandparents want to buy you resident evil or would they get something cutsy like Kirby's Adventure? (if you where in that age group)

edit for clarification: I persanlly prefer the xbox and their games, but I know where nintendo makes their money.

Nintendo makes a profit, Microsoft lost a ton of money on Xbox. I don't really understand why GameCube didn't catch on as well as the other two, it's a good system... it doesn't have as many games, but I'm not sure if that's because it's not popular, or if that's the reason it's not popular... kind of a chicken or the egg scenario. I love my Gamecube.

Resident Evil 4 was better than probably any console title of 04, and yes I'm including Halo 2 and GTA:SA (although this one is really debateable, as I enjoyed both extremly)

Nintendo is good at mastering their market and bad at moving into others. GC lost the current round because it caters to children. Xbox and PS2 are more attractive to older people. Gayboy does well because it was the only real handheld at the time. PSP is a real contender, finally.

I see Nintendo continuing to lose ground in the primary console (those that plug into tvs) and giving up in short order.

There's a reason why you see people wondering whether they should buy a PS2 or an Xbox. GC hardly ever comes into the decision. Somebody either wants a GC OR An xbox or ps2, but rarely is unresolved on which of the three to buy. GC sucks. You know it, I know it, the consumers know it.

no. nintendo really, really, really dropped the ball with windwaker. the online part is nice but sony's online isn't that great.

man, people were crapping their pants to get at the zelda demo showed off at e3 that year and nintendo pulled the rug from underneath us. twilight princess is going to be good, but jesus what the hell would make you do something like that to your third biggest franchise?


anyways, it looks like revolution may take nintendo back up to where it was with n64 but they wont win this generation. it better not suck apetits.

Agreed, but San Andreas had absolutely nothing on Vice City. And even though I'm older than 14 I'm gonna keep my Cube at least until Twilight Princess comes out.

I've played every 2D Zelda from beginning to end I lost interest in the 3D ones (at least the ones on N64), I wanted to try WindWaker badly, looked like lots of fun

I bought the Cube because it came with the 4 game Zelda disc, and because I wanted an inexpensive system that I could play some good games on... My only complaint was that they didn't include A Link to the Past, the best Zelda game ever made. I'm not as much a fan of the 3D Zeldas either. I suppose if I were a hardcore gamer I would have probably gotten an Xbox or a PS2... I hope Nintendo does a better job this time around of attracting the older gamers, I'd hate to see them pull out of the console market. Maybe it's nostalgia or loyalty, but I like them as a company.

Got a gamecube as a gift but I would have bought it myself had I not gotten it for the exact same reason, the 4 game zelda disc just kicked ass. I ended up picking up a bunch of $20 games and have really enjoyed it in my free time. Have never gotten into ps2 or xbox much and will not likely purchase another gaming system, i'm content with what I have. I'll continue to support Nintendo as long as they throw out Zelda games as those are the reason I game in the first place.

Nintendo is a GREAT company imo. They have some great exclusives, and they definitely made some good profit this round. Next round I see them in the same position, but I do not believe they will be pulling out. BTW I have all three consoles, and I love my GC.

Eternal Darkness. One of the most underrated games out there. It was an awesome game that didnt sell anywhere near as well as it should have.

i dont know about you, but i love my classics(mario borthers 1,3,2(wtf was nintendo thinking with 2? wasnt even a real mario like game, though ti was fun) duckhunt,zelda 1) but my NES no longer works. i'd love to pay say, $5 each to get play those games again on my TV.
