Will Pujols break the all time single season mark for HRs or RBI's?

Currently the records for the marks are 73 and 191 respectively, and Albert is on place to shatter the HR mark with 80 HRs, and just marginally beat the RBI total with 200.

To put things in perspective, we know of the recent home run surge in recent years with three people in recent years shattering Roger Maris' record, but the RBI mark has not even been threatened in recent histroy.

No one has gotten more than 165 RBIs since 1938..and just twice since then has anyone ever gotten more than 160.. and Bonds, who is first on the list of active players in RBIs, has a career high of just 137 RBIs..

Jimmy Foxx was on the pace to over 900 homers career. he stopped a little over 500.

you can't really predict stuff from trends, especially this early in the season.

When the chips are down and the play-offs are in sight they won't pitch him unless they have to.
While Albert has the capability to ride any given pitch, it's still up to the pitcher to make the throw, with his name potentially on either side of a record.
Not that many pitchers or managers have the guts to approach the stand and deliver when the 'safe' call is walk and wait.

2 weeks ago he was on pace to hit 85, then the pitching tightened down, and his hit on-pace is reflectedy lower.

Go Pujols

People have to pitch to him because the rest of his team can hurt you too.
The cardinals are a beast of a team.

BTW I think he will get close but no cigar

aw crap. i just wiki'd "hack wilson" because for some strange reason i had a feeling that i remembered him as the single season r.b.i. record holder and dammit, i was right. i think i need a break from baseball.

Anyone who knows just a modest amount of baseball history should know Hack Wilson is the record holder for most RBIs in a season..

you'd be surprised. my friends at work who follow baseball pretty damn closely didnt believe there were players named "three-fingered" brown or even cap anson. or even the origin of the eephus pitch or the fact that someone has once succesfully stolen 1st base from 2nd.

exactly. im not sure how many more game-winning homers its gonna take for teams to realize that pitching to him is stupid.

people pitch so carefully to bonds like he is still in his prime, but they'll throw anything to pujols. i know he has guys like Rolen and Edmonds after him but they're not gonna hit 50 HR.

i'd say he'll start getting walked every time once the season nears the end and teams are fighting for the playoffs.

im guessing 50-55 HR and 160 RBI

the pitching hasn't tightened at all....he's still on pace for 80

I don't have the slightest clue who any of those people/things/events are at all, but Hack Wilson is on the back of my mind.

yeah, i think he might have if he didn't get injured.. it's a oblique injury? that's like 6 -8 weeks.. maybe for him, it'll be more like 5 weeks.. regardless that's a crapload of games.. then he'll have to take some more time to get his swing back.. sorry pujols..

Explain that last one (emphasis added).
