Will Pujols break Bonds Record?

Everytime i watch my team, Pujols pops off another Homerun. I have liked him since his rookie year. The guy is a class act player, and does one hell of a job for the Cardinals.

This season he is even more amazing than the previous seasons. He is shattering records left and right (Broke HR Record for April, Fastest player to 19 HR's) and looking at the stats he is projected to pass Bonds.

If there is any player that i want to break that illustrious record it would be Pujols. Do you guys think Pujols will manage to break Bonds's record of 73 HR's?

But this Hot Streak has been going on since the beginning of the season. Its not like it has happened over the past week or so.

As for cooling down, when has Pujol's had a slump in his career. Keep in mind his worst year when he was slumping he was STILL batting .314.

If you dont believe Bonds legitimately Broke McGwire's record or Maris's record (Whatever you believe, i personally think McGwire did, since whatever he used was legal at the time of use; still he shouldn't have used them) then do you think Pujols will break 73HR's regardless of the owner?

What sense does that make. The man hasn't gotten any larger or more muscular since he has entered the league. If you are going to make such rash comments at least have some way to back it up.

I don't follow the Cardinals, but, have pitchers been walking Pujols intentionally a lot this year? It just seems like pitchers are afraid of the challenge of someone like Bonds beating them that I'd think if Pujols did continue this crazy streak, they'd just walk him too much for him to actually accomplish it.

He's got Rolen and Edmonds behind him - if those guys can stay healthy and have decent seasons, they'll have to pitch to Pujols.

I think he'll hit 50-57 or so, but 73 is crazy, we'll never see it again until new roids come out..

Corrrect. Now a days, the way to handle homerun hitters is to just intentionally walk him. Pujols won't hit more than 60 at the most.

I agree with this...the rest of the Cardinals can hurt you if you just walk him all the time.

73 would be amazing and I see it hard for him to keep it up....I'd like to see him do
it as long as he isn't bombing them out against the Brew Crew ;)

THere hasn't been a class act and pure player in the Majors like Pujols for a long time. Any evidence to support your claim....No, i didn't think so.

Agreed. Unlike a lot of these steriods guys, Pujols hasn't gotten any bigger, hasn't had a big spike in his numbers, etc. He has always been a big time hitter.

The comment, and mine as well, is directed at the MLB in general and its inability to control drug use. The point is that it's only natural to wonder who is juicing and who isn't given the recent trends. I'd certainly like to think that Pujols is that good, and he very well maybe, but no one really knows for sure anymore as to what players have and have not done.

and concerning your big spike comment... isn't that what this thread is all about? An amazing HR pace is certainly a big spike.

Sad that from now on, any big-time power hitter will be looked at sideways.

But just to play devil's advocate... Pujols may not have gotten bigger since he entered the bigs but that doesn't mean he wasn't using/bulking up prior to MLB. Testing is a joke. Only the really dumb guys will ever piss dirty. So when he's out there putting up numbers that are in the McGwire/Sosa/Bonds range... you really have to wonder.

Point is... whether he is or isn't juiced, we'll probably never know.

I don't think he will. He would have to be on fire like this for nearly the entire year. But then again, he's one of the most consistent hitters I've ever seen. Plus it's not even summer yet, who knows how much better the ball will fly out of the new park when it gets hot.

And I don't even want him to break it. It's not worth the trouble and all the media garbage he'll have to deal with. As you see from this thread, there will more and more baseless steroid accusations flying at him. If he's close coming down the stretch, ESPN and talk radio will be chirping about steroids purely because they have nothing better to do with their time.

I'd like to see him "fly under the radar" with about 58 HR

It took decades to break the old HR record and then I believe it was shattered because of the competition between Sosa, McGuire and Bonds.

I don't believe Pujols will break the 73 HR record, bu I have been wrong on occasion before.

I can certainly see what you are saying. I dont want him to have to deal with all that media (Not like he isn't getting a crap load as it is). However, i would like to see a good face to the record; someone we can be proud of to hold the record like we were with Roger Maris. Nothing on Bonds but he did a lot of it to himself.

As for bulking up previously, i doubt it. I remember seeing a College picture somewhere and he looked right on course for what he is like now. I agree though that it is sad we have to look at players this way.

I think he has a better chance than anyone else in the game today, but I don't think it will happen for several more years. I think he is still getting in the groove, much like most players in their early-to-mid twenties.

Still, he will probably break 50 this year.

And I don't think he is using anything at all. Given his batting prowess, we would be hearing rumors if there was a whiff of truth to any use.

Oh yeah, he'll take Bonds record and he'll do it without the steroids. And, he's got a pretty good shot at taking Aaron's record too.
