Will prolonged 1.7v kill my P4?

Got my 1.6A and ramped it right up to 2.4Ghz (150Mhz bus) at default voltage (1.5v). It would run Prime95 for days, but Quake would lock up and so would the DX8 diag program. Turned it down to 2160 (135Mhz bus) and this is where it's stable.

Of course I would like 2.4Ghz stable, but since my uATX board has no voltage adjustments, I must do the wire-thingy to get 1.7v. Will this kill my board or my CPU?

Don't go higher than 1.65V for Northwoods, otherwise you run the risk of frying the processor from electro-magnetic radiation.

Do you mean electro-migration?

I think Intel's max vcore spec is at 1.75vcore, but to be completely safe 1.7vcore or less is probably wise.

I remember when the Northwoods first showed up, there was an article at Ace's where someone(Brian maybe?) mentioned that running Northwoods at voltages above 1.6-1.65V was a Bad Thing(TM).

some people run it at over 1.8. if you have good cooling, you should be ok. i am still debating pin modding my p4 as well. i did the pin mod on a 1.6a before, but it didnt help me since i realized i had no bus speeds over 133 on my old board

It will definately die quicker than it would otherwise. Do yourself a favor and down it to 1.65
