will prescott/tejas require a new power supply or case?

Been holding off for prescott, but have the opportunity to get a good deal on a
antec 1080amg. Don't want to buy it and have it outdated. It's got a 430W power
supply.

Thanks!

Depends on how much you want to run off the PS, and wether or not you plan to OC. As far as I know it will not require some new order of power supply.

probably yes. the early prescotts will be able to be fit into the current cases. but since you mentioned prescott/tejas, i expect PCI express to appear by then. so we should have a revision of the ATX spec by then. that's why i think prescott/tejas will require a new case.

Chances are pretty good that Prescott won't exactly be cheap when it debuts. If I were going to get a high-end system like that, I would get a high end power supply and case to match... Besides, Antec's TruePower power supplies are too awesome to pass up.

P.S. PCI Express won't be out until a while after Prescott. The inital release of it will run on the current 800MHz FSB motherboards (i865/i875), which currently use plain ol' PCI.

i've read that prescott will run on canterwood chipsets, so you won't need a new case or psu.

when the grantsdale chipset comes that will introduce pci-express and that's a whole new ballgame.

the question is...regarding PCI-Express, what WILL we be able to keep from our old machine?

Video Card? PCI Cards? ATX Case?

true. most probably the answer will be Yes. Yes. No.
Manufacturers will provide support to the old technologies for a while longer like what they did with PCI video cards and ISA slots. But most probably the mobos will include 1 or 2 PCI express slots at the very least. so it's my guess that we must change our case.

jbond04, so do you think the 1080 amg is a good case?

this sucks guys. why the heck will pci express require a new case???

I was hoping to use the same case for my next upgrade 3 years from
now.

maybe intel has a secret alliance with case makers to force us all to
buy more cases?

I'm kind of partial to Coolermaster cases myself, but they're pretty expensive. To be honest, I really don't know a whole lot about different kinds of cases.
