Will PCIe x8 work in x16 slot?

I'm looking at building a server based on the Tyan K8SRE motherboard with a PCIe x16 slot and am thinking about using an LSI MegaRAID 320-2E PCIe x8 or an Areca ARC-1260 PCIe x4 controller card. I just have no idea if a x8 or x4 card will work in a x16 slot. Does anyone know?

Yes, thats one of the great things about PCI-E... Assuming you can adjust the BIOS with out effecting the other PCI-Slots..
