Will PCI-X cards work in regular PCI slots ?

I am thinking of getting an Ultra320 SCSI card, and it is PCI-X. Someone here said that any 64 bit card (almost any) would work in a 32 bit slot, it that true ? And is PCI-X different ?

Yes, they are interchangeable. It will only run at the slower speed of course.

Whazzup, my Partner in SCSI Crime? :D

As Mavtech said, it'll run but at a slower speed. Bandwith might be an issue for you though, if you're still planning on running a 5-drive RAID-5 setup. You'll be maxing the PCI bus for sure. :D

I'm waiting on my 64-bit, 66MHz RAID card as well. Waiting sucks. :p

Yes and no. Look at the edge. How many notches do you see? If it isn't notched for 5V pci then it most certainly is NOT PCI-32/33 compatible. My SRCU42X and Mylex A600 will work in PCI-X sluts ONLY.

Cheers!

Argh. I forgot to tell him that...YOU told ME that the other day! To quote one of those famous Master-Student type Karate flicks:

Master...I have failed you....

/hangs head in shame
/runs off to fight Tiger of Forgiveness in the Deadly Woods

:D

As Shuttleteam told me the other day: If it's got THREE notches, it's backwards compatible. If it's only got TWO notches it is not.
