Will PCI card work on a PCIe 16x Mobo?

I'm looking into getting a new motherboard, and a new video card shortly after. I've currently got a Radeion 9800 Pro, which is AGP, but when I upgrade, I want to ditch the AGP slot, and get a PCIe 16x video card to go with it (which will probably be a week or two later). Does anyone know if I'd be able to stick a PCI video card in it in the mean time until I get a PCIe card? yes, I know there are motherboards with PCIe and AGP slots, but I'd rather get extra slots I'll use for more then two weeks then an AGP slot. Jumping to a technology two generations old for video cards just seems questionable as to whether or not the functionality would be included.....

Yes, you can use a PCI video card with most PCIe motherboards because AFAIK, most PCIe motherboards still have regular PCI slots on them. I did this when I was waiting for the right time to purchase my 7800GT.

No, you cannot use a PCI video card in a PCIe slot since they are physically incompatible.

I did the same, and what he said is right.

Be careful in your board selection if you want to do this though. I'm in the same situation, using a pci vid card until my PCI-E one arrives, and have found that the newest bios for my board (MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum) won't boot at all with a pci vid card. Older bioses work ok, but have other issues.
