umm...the Celeron 800 with 100fsb just came out. I think 100fsb celeron would stay for at least a year. What other memory are they going to use for it besides pc100?
PC100 isn't going to be extinct any time soon, but it probably won't be used as often. Of course, like beat mania said, the new Celeron still uses PC100, but if you're an AMD supporter, you probably won't see many uses for PC100 in the wake of PC133 and DDR memory.
I dont see why PC-100 shouldnt go.
Its not like PC-133 doesnt work@100 MHz, and considdering the extremely small price differences, who would wanna buy PC-100?
Maybe OEM's like Compaq who can actually make some money from it(save 5 bucks on a PC and sell 1 million PC's), but in retail, I think it will be dead very soon.
I am still running at 66 Mhz on my Cel 500 (please, no pitty). At some point I will upgrade to an AMD or some such. I believe my RAM is 128 Mb of PC100 and 64 Mb of PC66.
So yes, there are still some saps like me who will use PC100 (or less) for a while.
PC100 is still widely used in the rest of the world, so it won't become extinct so soon! Do you have any idea how expensive hardware is in Eastern Europe alone?
I have 384MB of PC100 2-2-2 with a TBird 700@800 I'm quite happy with my rig I have no intent to change it anytime soon (my video card has got to go soon, but that has nothing to do with system RAM).
Considering the fact that it is still quite easy (although expensive) to buy 72-pin SIMMS, and if you look you can even find places to buy 30-pin SIMMS, it's highly unlikely that PC100 SDRAM will be extinct for quite a LONG time...
PC100 will be around for a while. As someone mentions, celerons still use PC100, as might the Duron for a while (havent heard anything about it moving to 133, but it would make sense). Then again, someone still makes SIMMs for systems, so who knows
There is hardly an advantage of PC133 over PC100. I'm getting 256MB of Kingston PC100 tomarrow, and ain't looking back. When I upgrade, it will be DDR.
