Will Palm survive this year?

I was wondering if Palm will atleast last until Summer (When Nexus One is released on Verizon). I recently purchased a Palm Pre Plus and love it but dont want to have it when Palm tanks and the phones resale value goes down!

I dunno, palm seems to have always been in trouble, their patent portfolio may be enticing for some of the major players, but I cant imagine anyone wanting to add another OS to their stable...

Isn't Palm's market cap under 1 billion? Google, Apple, and Microsoft all have several dozen $B in CASH, and there is a budding World War 1 style patent war...

Someone is going to buy them soon. Google makes the most sense, especially because the WebOS developers fled apple & they've been engineering in a Linux environment. They would be a great addition to the Android team.

If Google were to buy them, they should just make WebOS into Android 3.0. It's simply an easier to use OS. I've seen a number of people return Android phones because they can't figure out how to use them. A reason the iPhone is so successful is that an idiot can figure it out. Same is true of WebOS. Same is not true of Android.

Android is a versitile OS for sure, but not necessarily intuitive.

Newsflash: Your phone's resale value is already non-existent because it's a smartphone that gets replaced by "bigger and better" every six months and it doesn't have a fruit logo on it. I say that as a happy Sprint Pre owner.

From everything I've read, Palm has enough money to last about another year at their current pace, longer if they can actually sell some phones which is an uphill battle against competition that could buy them up, take their patents, and shut them down tomorrow if they wanted to.

I love webOS but I don't think it's long for this world unless Palm gets purchased by someone in need of an OS for their products and doesn't just want their patents.

Palm will atleast make it through 2011 before they really come into serious trouble. They might be bought out before then though.

Palm shot themselves in the foot with awful advertising, shotty build quality, hardware that shouldn't exist (Pixi), and being exclusive to Sprint for so long.

They should have tried to launch with a GSM carrier first so they could sell more phones outside of the US.

If Palm lasts until the end of 2011 on their own, I'm going to be surprised. They clearly don't have enough traction in the market to keep themselves self-sufficient. My expectation is that they either get (yet another) cash infusion through a major investment, or someone buys them out.

It just really sucks that Palm is most likely going to die cus WebOS is awesome but was put on sub-par hardware that no one wants.

So it's a good phone for finding women's shoe stores...

At least it doesn't give me nightmares.

Palm or whoever is in charge of these ads is going WAY out of their way to market this as a girl's phone.

I've only met one person who even owned it, she was a 15 year old girl and super excited for it. Then she dropped it in a toilet and it stopped working.

Palm should have targeted the professional market, they'd be the only major smartphone vendor besides RIM doing so. (windows mobile is too out of date to have much traction)

Ive only seen one, a female resident has one she showed me a picture of a retrieved dildo they removed in the OR she had taken.

The phone looked like ass, a hunk of black plastic? WTF?

I think the Pre looks good. Smooth lines and everything but it has crappy build quality and the keyboard sucks.
