Will P233 do ok as Sygate Nat? Will PII 400 be better?

Hi y'all,

I'm upgrading for the holiday season and I have a dilema. I would like to build my parents a new PC out of my existing PII 400/AX6BC. I was planning on using the PII400 as a gateway NAT with Sygate. They( my parents) currently have a P233 and I was wondering if I would see much difference between the two if all I want is a NAT/print server? The PII400 has 128mb ram and the 233 has 72mb ram, if this makes a difference. Happy Hollidays all.
Thanks,
D

The P233 would do fine as your server. I have a old p200mmx @ 225 (w/48mb ram) running right now on my network, it runs the following all day everyday without a problem.
G6 FTP server
Blackice Defender (Firewall)
RC5
VNC server
ICS

I just keep it fed with a plenty of cool air and a nice fat pipeline to the internet.
I say give your parents the 400 and tweak the p233 a bit and you will be fine.

yeah I agree... I used to run Sygate on a P75 with 32mb RAM and it has no problems whatsoever... so your P233 would be enough for sure...
