Will overclocking video card cores ever be the same?

in the latest generation of cards (w/ exception of kyro) overclocking the core is pretty much pointless. do you guys think in the next generation or 2 overclocking the core will be like the old days of GeForce DDR, voodoo3, etc. where overclocking the core is very important?

Well, in the older days of the TNT2, i found that overclocking the memory of my TNT2 Vanta card gave more benefits.

currently the bottleneck is the memory bandwitdh avalible to these cards.. once that is no longer the bottleneck, then yes, overclocking the core (as it will be the limiting factor) will be benifical. :)

If we all go to a tile rendering (i think that is what the kryo uses???) then yes increasing the speed of the core will hopefully make the card faster, provided the memory bandwidth is there. :)

Hmm...should this tread about overclocking video-cards be in this forum or the Videocard forum?

:)
