Like many people, I have a motherboard, among other things, waiting for the new Venice/San Diego CPUs. I have a DFI NF4 Ultra-D I bought from NewEgg a month ago. The questions have been answered before in different places, but I thought this thread could put it to bed.
Please discuss this and offer clarification. Don't bother offering confusion because that's where most people are right now.
I am excited and can't wait to get my Windows XP Pro x64 edition running strong and hard. I should have the whole thing built and tested shortly after I can get my hands on one of these sweet procs.
- The new Venice cores DO NOT need a bios flash to boot in MOST boards. Ultra-Ds will be fine. The bios should be updated at that point to ensure proper CPU Code recognition and enhanced compatibility.
- The San Diego cores may offer less promising results and could require an update to get moving very far. I need more confirmations on this, but it looks like BIOSes dated this year may be fine. Unfortunately, we don't have a way to tell what BIOS we have just yet.
