I haven't opened a Fed Ex account, but I have opened a UPS one, and there was no start up fee... sorry I can't be any more help.

Yes but there's a catch (as always). I believe you can only select your own carrier if buying through Dell Small Business.

Laptops/desktops (without monitor just the CPU) usually cost $95 shipped via Dell's default UPS.
$45 via FedEx by using your own account number.

You can open a personal or business FedEx account all you need is a credit card number for a personal account.

My wife and I have had a "business" FedEx account for over two years now. The advantages for us were FedEx Ground shipments to Canada and CODs.

However, there were also some problems too. On four occasions, when my wife dropped off packages at the FedEx office, we were charged for pickup. Something like $11 extra. They immediately charged our CC. On each occasion, there was a four to six month lag actually having our CC recredited for the amount they overcharged.

So now, we just pay cash up front instead of using the account.
