Hey guys. Happy new year to everyone!
The time has come to upgrade my mobile phone. I have focused mainly on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, for various reasons, one of them being the support of next gen mobile graphics.
I do game quite a bit on my phone, as silly as that may sound, so I am exploring my options here. Speaking of options, it has come to my attention that Mediatek has released its MTK6592 Octacore processor, which has already been incorporated in quite a few Chinese phones.
Yeah I know that these are two completely different segments of the market and yes I know that the Note 3 is better, in GPU, IPC, build quality, misc features etc, as well as the gimmicky nature of the Octa core, which will not be fully used in games. Still I believe that I could go by my business for the next year, with a MTK 6592 phone, mainly due to the suped up Mali 450.
We are talking 2/5s of the price here, in which case the money I save now, I can invest next year on an even better phone, Open GL ES 3.0 capable even, when at the time it will truly matter I guess.
The thing that bothers me the most, is if Open GL ES 3.0 will make a leap in 2014 and some good games actually start coming out supporting it, because afaik there are none right now. I know it is backwards compatible, but I wouldn't want to miss out on the extended features, if they come to be supported.
So what is your take on the subject? Any advice is welcome.
Thank you for your time.
PS Also if you have come across any Mali 450 vs Adreno 330 benchmarks, please do post them here. So far I have these http://www.antutu.com/view.shtml?id=7356#2
PS2 Tegra 4 also looks promising, which may be included as an option in my future purchase, if some phones come with it at the time.
