Will only boot with proc speed at 900mhz.

New guy here. Need help. I have a Asus A7V8X-x motherboard with a 1200 mhz Athlon at 266 front side bus. The thing won't post unless it is set at 900mhz. This board supports 200/266/333 front side bus, but will only work at 200 with this proc. I have a 2400+ xp at 266 and it works fine. This is just a back-up computer, but I would like it work right. Could the proccessor gone bad? Can't get any help for Asus since they won't return my e-mail or pick up the phone. Thanks for any input. Pat

If you're using sdram, the memory may be the problem. I had a similar problem with the k7s5a and pc133. It would only run at 100/100, instead of 133/133. Are you sure the 1200 is a 266 cpu. It might be a 200 fsb. Try running it at 12 x 100 fsb, and see if it posts.
