Will OEM WinXP Pro that came with HP work with non-HP PCs?

Regardless of the functionality, this is illegal. Most peopel don't realize it (I didn't know until about two months ago) that the OEM copy of WindowsXP that came with this computer, designated by a sticker with a license key on it, must always stay only with this computer and never go to another. If I take this computer and throw it in a trash, incinerate it, and send it to the moon, I'm still not allowed to use that OEM license to install WinXP on another machine. 🙁

I think that if you junk that machine that you could use it on another one just that nobody can be using that CD key anywhere else. Only on one machine at a time.

While that makes sense, legally it is wrong. Sensor is right. If you read the agreement that comes with any OEM software, you will see.

With regards to the op's question: I highly doubt that it would work anyways. Many HP's come with complete HDD images instead of an actual OS disk. That would never work. Even if it was an actual OS disk, it would probably be set up to only allow installs on HP PCs.
