Will oatmeal give one gas?

Let's just say my day at work hasn't been fun - I think it was the superbowl snack...

Anyway, I'm hungry, but don't want to kill my coworkers. Is oatmeal going to amplify things, or should I just starve myself?

I had oatmeal for breakfast. So far, so good. Although, I don't start counting until at least 3 people pass out.

The simple answer; yes

it really just depends on how much fiber you're used to getting. I just had a bowl of it with a banana, whey protein, and peanut butter this morning after my workout...i'll start farting in about 30 mins and the deuce will come in about 2 hours.

Edit: Also like to point out that if I have too much protein in my meal then I will start to fart as well. So my whey and peanut butter could contribute to the farts.

As the poster above me said, it depends on your metabolism and your normal fiber intake, but oatmeal ALWAYS gives me room-clearing gas....hell, make that National Park-clearing gas.

I eat oatmeal for breakfast about 5 times per week and it has never had that effect on me.

Chex Mix and a glass of milk this morning for me... you can probably run a car with the amount of gas I'm producing today.

Honestly, I finished my oatmeal a little over an hour ago, and I have to say I'm doing a little bit better than I was earlier... of course that might be the tea helping too...

Indeed. I'm going to add some carbonated beverage to the mix and see what happens...

Have a few hard-boiled eggs to increase the effects.

If you're gonna poot, you might as well make everyone else suffer.

My Doctor explained this to me when I started getting weapons-grade bad gas.

A quick uptake in your daily fiber consumption will cause gas. If your oatmeal is flavoured watch out for brands that use maltodextrin (it's on the ingredients list). That stuff act as fart-powder.

As a rule, increase your fiber intake slowly. Eat yoghurt to decrease the effects of the extra carbs in your lower intestine. The bacteria in yoghurt will help neutralize this.
