So them whats the tentative date for availability of next gen cards? ATi has ridden 9700 architecture for nearly two years now and Nvidia hasnt put out anything significantly better than ATi since the initial 9700 release.
So essentially we have had 18 months of fairly stagnant market with only refresh products being released.
What happened to 6 month refresh and 1 year product cycles?

Don't you remember? Both companies stated last year that they were moving to an 18 month product cycle.
There is only one solution Vian. Kill your new vid card jones by buying a 5800 like I did.I hate this. I've been in suspense forever.
Which one are you buying BFG? I got a A64 3000+ Newcastle/MSI K8T-Neo for my annual board upgrade this year. No complaints so far, fast and stable with the 9800Pro. Looking forward to seeing how it will push the 5800.I'm looking forward to seeing how these cards perform. They should go well with my new A64 system which I'll be building later this week.

If you want a card that will annihilate everything next gen, buy the upcoming XGI Volari QuadDuoSepto.Originally posted by: Flyermax2k3
If you want to play current/upcoming DX9 games on a card twice as fast as R3xx-class cards, get an R420.
If you want to play future PS/VS 3.0 games on a card that has some serious potential for current/upcoming DX9 games as well, get an NV4x
-Just my two cents
P.S. If you want to know why I make my recommendations, read this (post # 20)

Well according to the Inquirer today, you won't be seeing a NV40/5 at Cebit or anytime soon for that matter. nVidia got wind they were going to be 2nd place again so they killed off the current NV40 and pushed up the release of the next chip which will make them late.
Reading between the lines means they will miss the big PCI Express transisition of the OEMs with their native PCI E part. So they are going to be pushing their old FX GPU's and the bridge real hard I bet. I think ATI is going to be inside of a lot of machines this year.

Here is the link to the story (for those who haven't read it): Inquirer story I can't believe that Nvidia bombed again. You would think they would have gone to some extremes to one up ATI. After going and spending gobs of money and time on the NV40 and finding out that that GPU wouldn't cut it.... they are jumping to the NV45 and calling it an NV40.
Heck, even if they pull it off by June... ATI will kick the a*s once again for several months and by that time could develop there own 16 pipeline mega card. Don't know if the story is 100% accurate (it is the inquirer) but they sound pretty confident.

According to yesterday's Inquirer article the R420 is shipping with 12 of a max 16 pipes. So it sounds like ATI already have a 16 mega pipe card.
