Will Norton Ghost work on Linux?

I am looking for some software that performs like ghost that will work for both NT/2000/XP as well as Linux. If ghost can do this please let me know otherwise some other suggestions would be great. If anyone knows of any freeware that does this type of stuff that would be great also.

Actually, Ghost will not work on a Linux partition, since I am rather sure it does not support any of the linux filesystems, like ext and such.

However, there are some beautiful tools that you can use under Linux.
dump and restore will create perfect copies of any partition you use, with all rights maintained.
tar can often achieve similar things (needs a special option to retain all flags) and can be run with gzip

Ghost 2001 and 2002 work just fine with Linux EXT2 partitions. I don't think it works with EXT3 though. Drive Image is the same.

If you want a 2K/XP/Linux imaging/cloning app, your best bet is probably Drive Image 5. This works with both the Windows 2000 and XP versions of NTFS and Linux EXT2. If you want to use Ghost, you'll need the 2002 edition to get it to work with Windows XP NTFS.

Drive Image has two distinct advantages over Ghost 2002: 1. It allows you to save an image file to an NTFS partition (Ghost can only do this to FAT/FAT32/CD-R). 2. It doesn't prompt you for a twelve character license key code every time you want to perform a restore, like Ghost does.

Ghost will clone any partition type.

However, if it doesn't natively support the filesystem, then it essentially does a bit-by-bit copy, which is less space-efficient. If it recognizes the filesystem, it only clones the actual data, and ignores any unused space.

Ghost will work in partition or disk "IMAGE" mode... but its a little slower and takes a little more room to store.

Thanks for all the help guys. The reason for my inquiries is that I am looking to make an image of about 6 different pcs and be able to go back to this basic default so that I can test installing software on a clean system. I need ot be able to do this for both Linux Keral 2 and Kernal 4 machines as well as Windows 95/98/NT/2K/XP. Would you suggest Ghost for this?
