I currently have an Asus A7V, 1.1 T-bird, and 512 sdram. Would I notice a drastic improvement in ripping times, by upgrading mobo + cpu and changing to ddr? Thanks!

I use to do a lot of encoding with a 1.33ghz Athlon and 128megs PC 133. When I went to 256megs DDR there was a drastic improvement. Encoding uses a lot of memory bandwidth so ot only get a DDR mobo but also get a 333fsb Athlon as well. That would be the best combo for encoding. Riping is rather DVD drive HD dependant and doesnt take that long any how so no improvement there should be expected.

Well, RIPPING probably will change little (though a WD SE with the 8 meg cache will probably help) due to the fact its dependant on the DVD drive...

but if you mean encoding to DIVX or MPEG2 or whatever then yea. With that its the more the merrier (though 512 ram is PLENTY! I wonder hen 512 won't be enough and we all need a gig or something)

If your just ripping, your dvd drive plays the biggest role in that. If encoding then yes, an upgrade will help big time! I just got one of the 8meg cache drives and I notice a big difference in my computers ability to handle the large video files.

Oh yeah.

Get a a7n8x, 512 megs of pc2700 ram, a 333mhz athlon (or a 266mhz athlon but just lower the multiplier so you can get 333)
