Will new 22" LCD work with GeForce2 card?

My wife is using an older system and it has a GeForce2 MX400 4x AGP card...64MB memory.

She wants a 22" LCD and they seem to support 1680 x 1050. Will this work?

TIA

Google seems to indicate max resolution is 2048x1536, & considering my PCI 7000 64 MB did 1600x1200 just fine, i'm sure it can handle resolutions that high.

The real issue will be does it support widescreen resolutions?
Could be some fun getting drivers supporting 1680x1050 instead of say 1600x1200...

i connected an older machine with a gf4200ti to a 19" ws lcd. all kinds of scaling issues. the driver that came with the card just doesn't support the ws resolutions. you'll have to get new drivers to get the display to work right. Nvidia has some issues with ws drivers recently.

You just won't be doing any gaming at that panel with that video card. :p

Even if the MX400 has issues with WS panels, its easy enough to get a card that will drive that resolution on the cheap.

I believe it suports the older cards, too.

UPDATE: Yes, it does support MX400:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/9...inxp_32_supported.html

The site shows a 93.71 Nov 2, 2006. Is that better/newewr or should I get the 91.47?

I didn't like the 93.71 - the shadows were much darker in the games I play.

For your purpose either one will probably be OK, but I haven't tried the 93.71 with the Widescreen, so I don't know how it works at 1680x1050.

OK, well we do no gaming. I can just try yours and see how it works. I need to read about updating it. Not sure, but I do not think this card supports dual monitors. However, TwinView says it does. Is twinview part of their control panel now? I would consider a new card that did, but do not want to invest much more in this older system that my wife uses. Any idea how much a new 4x AGP card would go for that did support dual monitors and which one to look at?

I have never done a dual monitor setup, so I don't know. But it might be a lot to ask for with MX400 with only 64MB of Video Memory. It is a lot of pixels at 1680x1050..... x2.

You just have to try.

The newer AGP cards are usually designed for 4x and 8x AGP, so you will have to make sure that your AGP bus can support it. Hard to recommend anything without knowing how much you would be willing to spend. The card below is a very good card, if you are ready to spend ~$120 AR.

Just remember to uninstall the old driver before installing the new one - VERY IMPORTANT.

Good luck!

Thank you...do not need performance too much. Also, since my wife is also looking at the 24" Soyo, do you think the MX400 will do 1920 x 1200?

For a basic 2D operation, probably yes.

But it is only a guess - we are talking about the card that was developed more than 5 years ago, when no one could actually dream about these resolutions and Widescreen monitors.

If you get a monitor at a local store, you can always return it if it doesn't perform to your satisfaction.

Thank you. I think I have ruled out the 24" Soyo from all the trouble I see posted.

Anyway, it looks like the mx400 will work so I have nothing to loose by trying.

Well, now I don't know what to do. I got the ACER X223 on BF. This is about the same as my AL2216. I unpacked it and had it on the "big" machine. It is fine.

I put it on my wifes system with the Geforce2 MX400 and I get the BSOD in Win XP Pro SP2 (same OS as other system.

I used the cards DVI-D connection. If I use the NEC 19" on the analog connection, it is OK, but the ACER never displays a picture. IF I only have the ACER on the DVI output, and start in safe mode, it will work. But that is 800x600, if that.

The ACER will also work if it is on the Analog connection (not DVI) even at 1680 x 1050. So, is this a driver issue? I setup nvidia Forceware 93.71. I wondered if it was the Card or cable, but if the thing works in Safe Mode, could that be a driver issue?

I guess I could get another card...perhaps ATI, but not sure I can get a legacy 4X AGP dual head anymore. I would hate to go that route if there was nothing wrong with the hardware. Any suggestions on how to bring this up with both monitors and configure the ACER Wide Screen Monitor on the DVI cable? It will come up if ACER is on DVI and NEC is on Analog.

TIA

UPDATE.

My problem was resolved when I got an ATI based 9250 card. Not bad for $9 after rebates. It is an HIS with 128MB memory and 4X AGP from Amazon.
