i will be getting a new 9500 pro soon (after price drop when 9600pro comes out). i was wondering if my current system will pose any bottlenecks in trying to get the most out of the video card. here are my system specs:

windows xp pro sp1 (ntfs)
athlon xp 1600+ @ 1500mhz
msi k7t266 pro2 m/b (only 4x agp support)
ati rage128 32mb (temporary til 9500pro)
256MB pc2100 ddr (soon to be 768MB)
soundblaster live 5.1
wd 80g hd, maxtor 40g hd

Your system is fine (with the upgrades). You'll get a major boost with the 9500 Pro, and don't worry about the lack of 8X AGP as it makes absolutely no difference on any of the games or benchmarks I've tried.

Grab a stick 512MB while waiting.

EDIT: Oops. Just saw you are planning to do that. Grab 'em soon before the memory mafia raise the prices...again.

There will not be a price drop as they are discontinuing the 9500 series so I would jump on a cheap OEM of the 9500 pro $ 178 before prices go UP from the 9600 pro $200 IMO.

yes i understand they will be discontinued once the 9600 comes out but what about all the retailers that still have many of them in stock? wouldn't they reduce their prices to try and push their stock of 9500s out and start carrying the 9600s in their place? examples of this would be like the radeon 7500 and 8500 which can still be found but have been discontinued some time back. wouldnt the 9500s follow the same path?

lol it is debatable if the 9600 will beat the 9500 tahts why

There are benches circulating that show the 9600Pro runs neck and neck with the 5600Ultra, losing as often as winning. The numbers look to be legit based on what is known about the board, it is still quite a bit faster then the 9500 non Pro but it isn't close to the 9500Pro.
