Will my PSU survive the upgrade in my system?

I currently have the Topower 370 watt PSU (top370p4) and I'm considering upgrading the following components to my system:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+
EVGA 7800 GT video card
EVGA MB (non sli version)
(EVGA components part of their BF2 deal with the mobo, videocard combo)

This would be in addition to my current components:
2 case fans
1 10 gb HD
1 80 gb HD
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard
DVD drive
CD Burner
Floppy Drive.

The new components would be replacing my xp2400+ on my ECS K7S5A and my Radeon 9800 Pro (128mb)...

Opinions wanted, as I'm at my price peak and would hate to have to cut back on the processor for a new PSU, as in Canadian funds, the PSU's I'd be looking at are more than $80...

Thanks...

Dave

16a on the 12v are rather low..

3700+ isn't TOO power hungry, but the 7800GTX is def. a step up from the 9800 Pro.

It's time to invest in a quality 480-500w PSU.

yep, you'll probably want to invest in a good PSU for that system. The 7800GTX, as bjc insinuated, sucks up a good deal more power than the 9800pro. I wouldn't go any cheaper than an OCZ Modstream 450, but I wouldn't go any higher than 500w for that system. The Seasonic S12-500 is a great PSU, though a bit expensive. Might want to have a look at the Fortron AX500-A Blue which is more reasonably priced. Sorry none of these links are to Canandian retailers, but at least you can see specs & relative prices between them. Hopefully you can muster up the cash for one of these or a similar quality psu...

i have the fortron ax500

its solid as a rock running the comp in my sys rigs page named "puter"
you can get it or 79$ at actbuy

Thanks for the advice folks...just a head's up, and while I doubt it'll make a difference, I'm only getting the GT version, not the GTX version of the videocard.

Smthmlk...I was actually looking at the OCZ model you list, but it looks different, despite having the same model number. For $6 more, I was also considering this Enermax.

Thanks for all the opinions...

Dave

oh yeah, your generic may work for now, but wait 2 years and have it blow up on you and take out your motherboard with it. that just happened to me yesterday.

Either will handle your system with ease. remember that Fortron's power supplies are conservatively rated, meaning that their 400W power supply will outperform power supplies of greater wattage of most other companies

Thanks Raildogg...that's where I typically buy from and will be getting the 500w...just gonna do some searching for pricematch first 😉

Thanks guys for all your help...

Toppower isn't a sucky PSU brand. In fact, they're one of the top few PSU brands, and AFAIK they make PSUs for other OEMs.
