Will my new motherboard fit?

I want to get a new motherboard.
How can I be sure that the back of my case will suit all the plags and sockets?

if its an atx board and an atx case you should be fine, the backplate should come with the mobo or if necessary just run without one, not a major deal
if its an at case (ooooold) you'll likely have to dremel up the back of the case for it to fit, probably more so than its worth
if its a new case and new mobo you should be fine(as long as its an aftermarket case and not a dell/hp/compaq case)
what mainboard are you looking at and what case?
