Will my new 1.4 266 Tbird boot in my new Epox 8K7a MB? EDIT: Yes, the board posted!!

Some of these posts are making me nervous!! I just got the board and chip and have installed them in my case. I am just waiting for the heatsink/fan to arrive. Now I am reading that the bios shipped the the board may not allow the system to boot with the 1.4 so that I can flash it with the newest bios. Will I have to seek out a Tbird 1.3 or less just to boot up to do a bios flash? Should I set the jumper for lower multiplier so it will boot at less than 1.4?

Or should I not worry, and assume all will be well?

Please help!! Panic starting to set in!!

I got my stuff from Newegg, and one post mentions Newegg said the board won't support the 1.4.

I mounted the Glaciator and stuck in a video card and turned on teh power, the board posted and identified the chip to run at 1400!!

I've got that board with my 1.33 overclocked to 1466 at stock voltage and fsb so I don't see why there would be any problems. BTW, the board has been flawless as far as install, stability, and even overclockability. Hope this helps.

shouldn't be a problem. People have been able to run 1.5+ oc'd CPU on 8K7A. a 1.4 is just an "officially" overclocked CPU. 😀

Just got this reply from Epox:

Dear User,
Please refer to our processor support lists from our website for the board.
Unfortunately yes yor would need the system to boot up inorder to flash the
bios, and also the board does not support up to a 1.4 currently we are still
testing on this issue

The problem is this: if a new chip comes out that the bios cannot "read" it may refuse to complete the post. As an example I have a Tyan 1830S AT BX board that started out supporting P2 cpus when there were not any P3s. I flashed the bios and the board became capable of using a P3, however if I did not have a P2 to bootup with and flash I could not have gotten a P3 to work with the old bios.

This is what I was worried about, but the board does bootup with the 1.4. I guess Epox just does not want to technically support a chip that was not around when the board was released. Also I presume that if I flash with the latest bios it will give full support for the 1.4 etc.

Have you guys changed anything from the brand new motherboard. I got my board (8k7a) and cpu (1.2) yesterday and will it work by default. That is without changing anything?

Do I need to take care of anything before starting the system? Please guys.. help me (PM) this is the first time I am doing system assembly.

Thanks
