Memory size is a function of the chipset AND the board's BIOS. You've got an Asus motherboard with an HP BIOS on it. That's an interesting situation. According to Via's page on the KM400A chipset the max memory is 16GB for that chipset.

HP may have limited the board to 1GB. Being that there are two slots on that board and Asus does say "max 2GB memory" I'd take a chance and try the 2GB of memory. Be sure you're running the latest available BIOS for your board and go for it.

According to Crucial's Website it will take 2 1GB sticks. If you purchase directly thru them, they will guarantee compatibility. I'm not sure how much of a price premium they are charging on their sticks however.

Comes out to $62 + shipping for the 2 sticks from Crucial.
